Never Surrender! Blogfest

During the second week of June-–that’s the 11-16th–-Elana Johnson is hosting the Never Surrender blogfest to celebrate her new book release this month. Blog about a time you didn’t surrender!

In an odd way, this blog is all about not surrendering. Nine months ago I reached my financial goal and quit my job to work full time. I had enough money to last a year. All the details are in other blog entries (If you want the full story see the "Lessons Learned" sequence in April and May), but in short:

I want to be a full time writer. That's been my goal for years, but it was a "someday" goal--something (as I've written before) to keep me from strangling my co-workers. I can handle this because someday...

So for the last nine months I've been writing 8 to 10 hours a day. It wasn't easy, and I don't expect that it will be easy in the future.

I will not surrender. If I have to go back to work (which is a possibility at the end of my year) I still won't surrender. I will continue to write, and someday I won't have co-workers to strangle. :)

  1. Good for you, taking that leap of faith! My friend did the same thing. We're both teachers so I was so jealous her hubby made enough $ that she could quit her job for a year. At the end of the year, she had an agent, still no book deal. So she had to go back to work, but not to teaching. Now she enjoys her new job so much she doesn't know if she wants to be a writer. You never know where that 'in the dark' road may lead you:) Hope you see many blessings on your journey!!

    1. It was a huge leap. I still don't believe that I had the courage, but nine months later I'm still here. I love it.

  3. Fantastic. That's a lot of writing each day. What a joy it must be to not have a job where you have to do what your told/assigned as compared to working at your own pace at something you love to to.

I am still working as a teacher but I do have my first novel out and am at work on my second. One of these days, Alice...!

  5. This is the perfect example of living the dream! Good job working as hard as you have for the past nine months--and for doing so before that too in order to take the year off! So inspiring. Thanks for participating in the blogfest!

    1. I haven't done a blogfest before. I found a lot of new blogs I hadn't seen before, which is always fun.

      I love this.
