I did 4000 words per day last Thursday and Friday, then I was doing yard work Saturday and sick Sunday (although I don't write on Sunday so that one doesn't count) so I'm right on schedule if I don't write today.
I have every intention of writing today.
The story is turning out interesting, although I've already identified a few things that will proably be eliminated in editing. I have two characters who may have to go--it depends on whether or not they become more central later.
NaNo is interesting. It seems that somewhere around 10k I hit a dry spell, and I have to write my way through it--that is, write drivel until the storyline starts to fall into place. In the first 10k, I'm introducing lots of interesting stuff, and it isn't until later that this "stuff" starts to fall into place in a coherent fashion. At some point some of that "stuff" becomes periferal while other items take on greater importance.
Right now the focal points are the Demons Bay (I didn't realize that Galanos had a palace right on the shore!) and the Monster (haven't figured out yet whether he's a good guy or a bad guy--or just insane) and politics in the court and for the first time (maybe) we'll get to see some of the mutated creatures from the Bay.
And a dark maze, of course. My writing group teases me about how often my stories include caves or darkness in some form. I don't mind. The idea of running a familiar maze in the dark is just intriguing. Especially if you're being followed by something...
How are you all doing? If you're not doing NaNo, tell me about your projects!
Visiting from IWSG. Not doing NaNo this year. Working on revising and editing last years NaNo project. Good luck. Nice to meet you.
