Lessons Learned #4

Fear has no Part in the Decision Making Process

During this whole process, I was scared. Terrified, really. I want, and need, stability. This went against everything I have learned in my life.

But it was necessary. I went back to my old company for a visit a few weeks ago. It was nice to know I'm still wanted there, that people remembered me, but I remember one comment in particular--one of my former co-workers said she'd never seen me so happy.

While there are things that must be considered (such as finances or medical needs) get rid of the fear. If you're not doing something because you're afraid, it's the wrong reason. Every time.

  1. You are a very brave girl. Very brave. A few years ago I decide to sing whenever someone asked me to because it terrified me. Then I decided to look for opportunities to sing. It still terrifies me, but I think it's getting a little easier, sometimes. I don't know. Maybe I'm getting more afraid.

  2. It doesn't get much easier, but I still dread having to go back into the workforce. That scares me more now than the original decision did a few years ago.

  4. I love this post, Lauren. It's all so true.

You can't let fear stop you. I knew I wanted to get serious about my writing when my husband and I faced a foreclosure on our house several years ago--which is one of the biggest fears most homeowners and parents ever face.

Once we survived that, getting rejection letters or struggling with occasional writers block didn't seem very scary at all, anymore.

Our failure made me a stronger person, because it helped me see that we could face one of our darkest fears and make it out the other side just fine.

The same thing applies to following dreams and ambitions, and I admire you every day for what you're doing.
