11 month update

So I have a month left--technically. I keep looking for a way to keep writing, but if I can't find anything I'll be looking for a job as of September 1st.

Laugh at me if you like, but I'm thinking I'll check at some of the charter schools for asbergers kids around here and see if they need people. I think that would be interesting.

Right now I'm just doing as much as I can. I did almost 17000 words last week between four different books. Not as much editing, but I'm trying to get some of the old (unfinished) novels cleaned out and complete the triage edit on those I've finished.

I finished UnderWorld and I've now got three more books planned in that series--HalfBrothers, HalfWorld and HalfBlod. More peripheral characters whose main stories I had to cut. It seems to be a pattern--when I have a problem with a plot, it's usually because I tried to stuff too many plot-lines into it. But I fall in love with the characters and I want to tell their stories too...

HalfBrothers is about Samok and Alit (from DemonBorn), HalfWorld is another Kobi story and I'm not sure about HalfBlod. The others all came in threes so I figured I'd stick to the pattern. I'll find out sooner or later. Or I'll decide on something else.

I finished the Triage edit on DemonBorn (that's where HalfBrothers came from) so now I have five books finished in that series (out of six--now nine). I need to finish DemonLands, but right now I'm working on others.

I need beta readers for Demonborn. Anyone want to volunteer?

  1. Well, I'm a Kobi fan, but you know already knew that. :-) Hopefully within a few more weeks I'll be able to volunteer if you'll still be looking at that time.

Good luck on the income-generating front. I'm impressed that you've been able to survive for a full year and dedicate yourself to producing such an enormous amount of output. 17k in a week is most impressive!

  2. I did 8000 Tuesday, so the rest of the week was about normal. Demonborn is actually the first in the series, and it's about both sisters. I've been fighting with some plot problems and finally figured them out.

About five years have passed between DemonBorn and DemonTaint. DemonBorn is the one where Lady Motsu disappears...

  3. Get a *real* job if you must, but don't give up on your writing!

And working with Asbergers kids is a noble cause and a calling. I have two children with mild autism (PDD NOS, for those in the know), one whose dx will likely change to Asbergers. I love em, but it definitely tries the patience.

IWSG #179 (At least until Alex culls the list again. :P)

    1. It may seem strange, but I love working with them. Stressful at times, mostly when the parents say things like "The therapist says he'll never improve" and ignore the signs of improvement that I see.

As for giving up the writing, I tried once. Ever seen someone going through withdrawal? The headakes, the shakes, the outright irritability? That's me when I try to stop writing.
