Last Week was Insane

Which has nothing to do with anything, except that I wanted to say it.

I went to the Gem Fair on Friday and Saturday. I wouldn't have indulged myself quite so much but I have friends who want to go, so I went with one on Friday and the other Saturday. I need to go on Friday so that I can get the free entrance, then I can go all weekend.

So I spent most of those two days wandering happily through all the "sparklies" (I do like sparklies, just not the same sparklies that everyone else seems to like) and drooling over what I can't currently afford. I got crimp beads, which is what I had budgeted for, then stretched that budget to more beading needles and wire.

I think the main point here is that for a few days I allowed other things to take precedence over writing. I haven't allowed that since I quit my job last August, and it felt good. I haven't had a vacation (not that I really wanted one) and I think I needed that time, some time away from work even if I don't want to be away from work.

In this case, a change IS as good as a rest (it hasn't previously proven to be that way for me). For the last seven months I've been focused on my writing, six days a week and eight to twelve hours a day. I've been enjoying it immensely, but in the last few weeks I've been struggling to focus.

It might have something to do with the beautiful weather and my garden waking up. Cabin fever, maybe. One of these days I'll just take my computer outside for a change.

Ooh, and I'll see sunlight, and grass, and tarragon, and my herbs are up and it's time to thin the lilies and the strawberries (which we use for groundcover) and the new garden, and the little shoots on my windowsill.

Talk about getting distracted.

  1. Those are good distractions. You've been working hard and deserve a little break.

    1. So today I did 2000 words in about an hour and then thinned the lillies. I'm back in shape!

      I guess...round is a shape?

  2. Oh, a break sounds wonderful. Even if you've been enjoying writing, that's a LOT of writing you've been doing. Everyone needs a break!

    1. I'm learning these things a little at a time. Breaks, lunch (!), and now vacations. The problem is that in the past I've spent my vacation writing... :)
